What it is

Buying the manufacturer’s litter

Usually unnecessary and occasionally sensible. The M1 accepts several litter types, so this is not a lock-in — but if you would rather not spend a month finding out which bag your machine likes, the one it was tested with is the short cut.

Dust and sensors

The dust figure is not about your lungs. An enclosed drum full of fine dust coats infrared sensors, and a sensor that mis-reads stops a cycle or starts one at the wrong moment. Low-dust litter is a maintenance decision.
